1992 classic Amiga game - car racing games

Formula One Grand Prix (together with Indianapolis 500) was first racing game that included real physics rules to simulating the car - Geoff Crammond, creator of the game, had physics and engineering degrees and made use of his knowledge to program game that had high level of realism when it comes to car behaviour. Also, contrary to Indy 500, Formula One Grand Prix was offering not only all of the Formula One tracks, but also the option to play the whole season.

Although the 3D polygon graphics were still far from being able to realistically simulate the world the dynamics of the game and available options made Formula One Grand Prix a huge success. Not only we were able to change the setup of the car (wings, brakes, tyres, gears), but also we could see and feel the change in car behaviour after those changes. Additional options gave the chance to new players to start with some support (f.e. automatic gears, auto breaks, best line displayed, etc). Another nice feature was the editor that allowed us to rename all the teams and all the drivers in the game (for legal reasons they were all made up, but through editor we could have restore the real names).

An all-time classic that was a huge technological step forward and, together with its sequels, it still is the most successful Formula One racing game.
